Title: Cross section of engineering and healthcare
Abstract:Recent advances in a cross-disciplinary approach to healthcare have seen good success in transforming engineering solutions from lab experiment to field studies. In a similar line, our research is to understand and develop engineering solutions to the healthcare domain. My presentation will cover 3 engineering solutions we are currently working. First part will focus on the cross-disciplinary approach to improve the continuous insulin delivery using microneedle and micropump technology. The second part will cover the development of wafer scale multi-beam linear accelerator for healthcare industry. The third part will cover the applications of pyroelectric-based high voltage (HV) generation for ambient pressure ion source, ion pump application, and HV source in a soft robotic actuator.
Speaker Bio: Vinaya Kumar is a tenure track staff researcher at International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL). Where his research focuses on the design and development of miniature NMR spectrometer and BioMEMS devices. In 2015 he received Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Science (IISc), India. For his Ph.D. thesis, he has received the best thesis award from the Institute for Smart Structures and Systems (ISSS), India. In December 2015 he joined Cornell University, USA as a Postdoctoral Associate. During his postdoc, he closely collaborated with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), Berkeley, USA. He has authored 18 papers in journals and conference proceedings and filed 2 patent applications.
